Hey guys!
Grab your passport and join me on my Senior Adventure Year—a year of learning, missions,
exploration, self-discovery, and spiritual growth. Let’s go!
To jump start my year early, I developed and practiced three different skills in the span of four
weeks beginning in June.
Pacifiers
I dove into the Southern Baptist national convention serving with Giant Cow Children’s Ministries as the first part of my busy month. (Giant Cow is one of my favorite ministries and I love serving alongside them as they do children’s events around the U.S.) At this huge event in Southern California, my role was to help in the baby room of childcare. Later that same week, I helped at another Giant Cow conference in SoCal, but with ages 4 and up. Even though I have babysat many times and have younger siblings, I discovered that taking care of several children under the age of two is a mental and physical balancing act!
From early in the morning until well after dinner, I balanced multiple kids in my arms and all around me. I had fun getting to know the kids, making it possible for their parents to attend the convention, and I also loved working with the other volunteers and sharing smiles and laughs over the children’s antics!
Prayers
Next on my SoCal adventure was a ten-day prayer retreat called Nazarite Intensive. I had such a great, spiritually enriching time! I learned a lot about different faith-based topics and also different types and styles of worship while I was there.
The thing that impacted me the most while I was there was meeting other young people that are chasing after God with all their hearts. I’m very grateful for the opportunity I got to challenge my faith and to learn and grow in my walk with the Lord. I’m also grateful for the awesome group of people I got to learn right alongside with!!
Pies
Directly after Nazarite Intensive, I stayed for about a week longer in Southern California with the Schwind family who helped me enhance my cooking skills. The main thing I gained from my time with them is a newfound confidence in the kitchen. (If my dad was writing this, he’d probably say that the best thing I learned was how to make an upside down apple pecan pie, but I beg to differ!) I realized that even if you totally mess up a recipe, it isn’t that big of a deal and everyone will still love you! Thank you, Schwinds, for putting up with my messy carrot peeling and my curdled pasta sauce!!
Good Bye!
